How to start a home based business on the Internet. |

Many of us dream of starting our own business, and now, with the advent of the Internet, there has never been a better time to turn that dream into a reality. Whilst having a certain amount of capital to invest in the business is a definite advantage, it is not essential. Provided you have a PC, a desk, a good idea and a willingness to work hard, it is possible to develop a lucrative part-time business, or to grow it into a substantial full time occupation. I believe, as do many more experienced "web gurus", that the future lies in building content rich, niche, or theme sites, that will attract visitors and search engines alike. I have just finished Dr Ken Evoy's Affiliate Masters e-mail course in which he takes the reader right through the steps of building a great, content rich, niche site, right from coming up with the initial ideas through to building a keyword rich site. Like all of Ken's courses, it is well written, full of useful advice and information and, what is even better, it's FREE. Check it out yourself - I am
sure that you will find that it will help you to develop a profitable
web based business. Even if you do not have a particular area of expertise or interest, you can set up an online business, in your own name, as an affiliate or partner - but more of that later. What can I sell?If you already have a web site you want to develop, or at least a definite idea of what you wish to sell, you can skip the next couple of paragraphs (although you will find reading the above course will give you a great deal of relevant advice and information). If however, like many people, you know you would like to do something on the Web, but are not sure what, lets see if we can help you to come up with the germ of an idea which we can grow - don't worry if we can't, there are other ways as I mentioned earlier. Are you a member of any clubs or societies that could benefit from a Web site, or do you have any hobbies or interests that you could develop.? Whether you breed budgerigars, collect Native American artefacts, or support a certain sports club, you could set up a site to promote that interest. To take the first suggestion as an example. You start off talking about your particular experience. You then research the history of budgies, provide links to other sites, set up a mailing list for other breeders, start an online discussion group from your site, send a regular newsletter to your customers (an ezine), sell budgie feed and cages etc. and set up links to an online bookstore such as Amazon.com or Books Online (bol) to sell books about budgerigars. Eventually what starts out as a hobby, could develop into a full time, profitable business and the acknowledged site for people interested in budgerigars. By specialising in one niche market or product, it is possible to become known as an authority on that subject and to build up enough traffic to that site to be able to sell related advertising or products from the site. The beauty of the Web is that however obscure and specialised your site, the fact that you have access to the population of the whole world, there will be enough potential visitors to your site to keep you busy. By the same token, you are not limited to catering for just the people in your own neighbourhood, state, or even country. If for example, you live in the Midwest of the US, but are fluent in Spanish and are an expert on the history of flamenco dancing, there is no reason why you cannot aim your site towards surfers in Spain as well as Spanish speaking Americans. Do you have your own e-mail address? If not, you can get a free one from us, just click here and fill in the information - you will get a free, fully featured email address with 6mb of storage. If you haven't already done so, send for Ken Evoy's email course and take your time to work through it thoroughly - you won't regret it, and it will help in choosing a domain name and actually designing your site. So now, hopefully, you have some idea of the theme of your site, the next step is to choose a domain name, choose someone to host your site and then to design it. (Don't worry if you haven't, go on to the "What to Sell" section) We would welcome
